Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety isn’t just worry—it’s the body sounding an alarm, even when you're safe.
At Holistic Resources Clinic, we know how overwhelming anxiety can feel. Whether it shows up as racing thoughts, avoidance, or physical tension, anxiety can interfere with daily life, relationships, school, and self-esteem. The good news? Anxiety is highly treatable—and with the right support, you or your child can regain a sense of calm and control.
What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress—but when it becomes constant or extreme, it can be difficult to manage. For some, anxiety is situational. For others, it’s persistent and tied to how their brain processes safety and uncertainty.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Excessive worry or fear
Difficulty sleeping or relaxing
Racing thoughts or constant “what ifs”
Avoidance of people, places, or activities
Trouble concentrating
Stomachaches, headaches, or muscle tension
Irritability or restlessness
Panic attacks or shortness of breath
In children and teens, anxiety may also appear as school refusal, meltdowns, perfectionism, or physical complaints with no clear medical cause.
Anxiety & Neurodivergence
Neurodivergent individuals (such as those with autism or ADHD) often experience anxiety at higher rates due to sensory sensitivities, difficulty with transitions, confusion or challenges in navigating social situations, or past experiences of being misunderstood. That’s why Dr. Stai provides therapy that is both trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming.
